MEMORIAL DAY STABBING Print E-mail

Police are looking for additional information on an altercation that occurred in Gettysburg Borough which left three people injured, one suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Gettysburg Borough and Cumberland Township police responded around 3:15 p.m. Monday to a stabbing incident that took place in the area of the rear of 5 Buford Avenue as the Memorial Day parade concluded blocks away at the Gettysburg National Cemetery.
Borough police Sergeant Kevin Wilson released additional information on the incident, which is still under investigation, Wednesday.
Sgt. Wilson reported that two males, one being 20 years of age and the other 23, both from Steelton, Pa., were visiting at 5 Buford Avenue when the incident occurred.
The two males and a 19-year-old female were injured during the altercation.
The 20-year-old victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the back, Wilson stated, and was transported to Gettysburg Hospital where he was subsequently transported by STAT MedEvac helicopter to York Hospital for treatment.
He has since been released from York Hospital.
The 23-year-old male and the 19-year-old female were transported to Gettysburg Hospital where they were treated for unspecified injuries and released.
The names of all of the individuals involved are being withheld at this time due to the ongoing status of the police investigation.
The stabbing incident occurred Sunday soon after the borough Memorial Day parade had concluded at the entrance to the Gettysburg National Cemetery and the Memorial Day services got underway at the Soldiers’ Monument.
At one point, as borough Mayor William E. Troxel was introducing state Representative Dan Moul, the introduction was interrupted by a STAT MedEvac flying overhead.
The helicopter was in fact preparing to land at Gettysburg Hospital to airlift the 20-year-old stabbing victim to York Hospital.
Sgt. Wilson requested that anyone with information on the incident contact  Adams County Crime Stoppers by:
